Athens to Clayton
Relaxing just a bit
The ride from Athens to Clayton is only about 75 miles, or put another way about 3/4 of a tank of gas on Tonya's bike or not quite an hour's worth of riding when we get on the open road. Also we knew the hotel wouldn't be able to check us in until after noon. Because of this, we weren't in a big rush to get to Clayton, and Athens was so nice we decided to breakfast there. Here are a couple of shots from breakfast in Athens, Georgia. One of me balancing the books over breakfast - yes, I do manage money very carefully, especially when on the road.
Here is a shot of Tonya at the same restaurant.
We booked a room at Kingwood Resort, a nice golf / spa / hotel / condominium type resort in Clayton, GA. We had a great room with a terrific view of the golf course and the hills out our back porch. Tonya and I decided to spend Tuesday just relaxing in the hotel room.
Late that afternoon we went out for a two-up ride on the BMW just in the local area. Here is a shot from a scenic overlook just a few minutes outside of Clayton. North Georgia is just beautiful.
Clayton is a fairly simple little town, mostly just a downtown area of a couple of blocks and a newer 'strip mall' down the main highway. There were very few restaurants in Clayton, so we ate at the local Mexican restaurant.
That pretty much wraps up the first day. We took time to relax, enjoy the spa and other facilities at the resort, and just generally enjoyed not working or having to answer phones, emails, or pages.
